Spirit/ Mind: Compassion

I heard the song by REM that says "Everybody hurts" on my way home and decided to look up the lyrics. I think they are an anthem of compassion. We all need encouragement and Love! I think we should support each other and realize that EVERYBODY gets down and needs help sometimes.
Song by REM:
When the day is long and the night, the night is yours alone,
When you're sure you've had enough of this life, well hang on
Don't let yourself go, 'cause everybody cries and everybody hurts sometimes
Sometimes everything is wrong. Now it's time to sing along
When your day is night alone, (hold on, hold on)
If you feel like letting go, (hold on)
When you think you've had too much of this life, well hang on
'Cause everybody hurts. Take comfort in your friends
Everybody hurts...
Well, everybody hurts sometimes,
Everybody cries. And everybody hurts sometimes
And everybody hurts sometimes. So, hold on, hold on
Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on
Everybody hurts. You are not alone

After reading the lyrics enjoy this version (by the Corrs) of this great song

WE should try to be more sensitive to the fact that other people can be hurting and trying to be strong.
Sometimes a shoulder to cry on and an ear to bend is the best gift you can give.
I plan on challenging myself to be more sensitive to others' pain. I believe that showing compassion is one of the most important works that a Christian can do and besides  --- EVERYBODY HURTS!

  1. R.E.M.'s guitarist Peter Buck writes that "the reason the lyrics are so atypically straightforward is because it was aimed at teenagers", and "I've never watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but the idea that high school is a portal to hell seems pretty realistic to me. From Wikipedia.
